Festival Membership - Good or Bad?
Alan (Founding Member) - 16th November 2007
Another example to remind you that the Music industry is a business and not just your cuddly harmonic friend. The Isle of Wight festival are offering the chance to buy membership to their yearly shin-dig, among other things it entitles you the ability to buy festival ticket up to 3 years in advance. Yes you read that right 3 whole years.

You can now buy a season ticket for your favourite football team, a yearly oyster card but also your summer festivals, who says kids these day's don't plan for there future. How long until you have to join a waiting list to see something years in advance as the tickets are already sold out, even without knowing who will be there.

We just hope you will be able to hear the music over the sound of the cash register Ca-Ching!
Second Encore on the BBC
Alan (Founding Member) - 23rd October 2007
I am very pleased to announce that the campaign has got its first bit of airplay on Danny Baker's BBC London show. The host is well known for his love of music and showed his support for the idea of saving the encore. If you missed the show i have included the sound-clip below.

Two Spot give two encores
Cross Kings, Kings Cross - 20th October 2007
Last night Two Spot Gobi thanked the cheering crowd at their Kings Cross gig by dedicating the first impromptu encore to The Campaign, but this wasn't enough for the fans who still wanted more and wouldn't let the band leave without just one more song, and they were not disappointed.
The times they are a changing...
Alan (Founding Member) - 15th October 2007
***UPDATE*** Thanks for your patience and we hope you like the new site, there have been a few changes and a tweak here and there. The newest feature is the Guest List - as we want bands to know how many people want change, so show your support and get your name on the Guest List.

-----

Keep an eye on Second Encore over the next few months as there are some big changes planned to the site and the campaign. We hope you will like them, and don't worry the changes will not mean an increase in your taxes, we are doing them free - just because we like you guys x
Amy Winehouse
Shepherds Bush Empire - 31st May 2007
To end her 2nd night at Shepherds Bush Empire on Tuesday 29th May Amy closed the set by saying this would be her final song of the night, which gained a reaction from the crowd of disappointment at being the last song, but Amy replied with "You've all been to one of these things before, come on you know how it works.....". So even artists as well known as Amy are becoming complacent with the whole encore.
Arctic Monkeys come back for more
London Astoria - 16th April 2007
Arctic Monkeys finished off a great performance at the London Astoria on Friday night with an uncharacteristic Encore. The band are not normally known for coming back on stage, but the band returned after a large selection of the fans stayed in the venue cheering and clapping for them to return.

We have to thank the Arctic Monkeys for a prime example of an encore because they wanted to give something extra back to their loyal fans, and not because it had been preordained. We aren't always demanding 2 encores, just a true encore.
New law could ruin the live music scene in the UK
UK live music news - 28th March 2007
The Government have recently passed laws in the UK to try and suppress live music. Pubs which could previously offer work to solo musicians or duos now have to pay for a special licence and can only have 12 of these per year. The unlicensed provision of even one musician is a potential criminal offence (although some places are exempt, including places of public religious worship, royal palaces and moving vehicles). Max penalty: £20,000 fine and six months in prison (for the proprietor and the musicians).

The rationale is to prevent noise, crime and disorder, to ensure public safety, and the protection of children from harm. But broadcast entertainment, including sport and music, is exempt - no matter where, and no matter how powerfully amplified. For the first time, private performances raising money for charity will need a licence.

Currently more than 60,000 people have joined the list but every signature counts.

If this law is implemented, it will be disastrous for music and musicians in the UK, and will threaten to return Britain to "the land without music" that it was internationally considered to be after Cromwell's infamous ban on music.
Arcade Fire finish London dates with a Second Encore
Brixton Academy - 19th March 2007
To finish off their four day sell-out dates at Brixton Academy, London – Arcade Fire covered a version of ‘Guns of Brixton by The Clash’ through a megaphone for their Second Encore of the evening.

The whole band came back onto a darkened stage for the second time carrying just a megaphone and a drum. Standing centre stage and singing through the megaphone without the help of a mic they gave a great acoustic version of the famous clash track with the help of a full Brixton crowd.
The London Astoria is under threat of demolition
Save The Astoria Campaign - 1st March 2007
The Crossrail project have plans for The Astoria. Crossrail's 'people' have informed savetheastoria.org that "The Astoria Theatre will be demolished to make way for a worksite necessary for the construction of the new Crossrail station platforms and passages."

That's right. Instead of the London Astoria, we get a hole in the ground. A building site. Fuck all, basically.

If you want to help the Save The Astoria Campaign, there are various ways to do this:
