Second Encore is a campaign set-up by a group of friends that love
live music and are no longer happy with the single obligatory encore
most bands do. We are trying to gain support from like minded fans
to show bands that we want more from an encore, not just the always
predictable walk off walk back on 2 minutes later routine.
As live music fans we have become disenfranchised with the "encores"
that most bands have become accustomed to performing.
We want to believe that bands are coming back onstage to do a few
more songs because they are enjoying themselves, they love playing
live and mainly to say thanks to their fans for being a great audience
and supporting them.
We think
that the best way to make bands realize that as fans we don't
want a crap encore is to group together and get as many people
as we can to stand up and show we want more - more songs, more
spontaneity and more appreciation.
Below are some examples for when you already know that the encore is a pre-planned mediocre addition to the set:
- When the band leave their best songs out of the main gig only to play the hits in the encore.
- The band wait at the edge of the stage
- They say they will be back on shortly (then why bother leaving!)
- When the stage crew don't start packing away
- When you get that feeling if you clap or not they are coming out anyway
- There is 20 minutes left before the gig is meant to end
Get together with other music fans as there is strength in numbers,
you can look out for us
down the front at one of our listed gigs, we will be the group
by the stage chanting for the band to come back and do just a
few more songs.
All you need to do is save the majority of your
applause and cheers till after the first
encore has finished, most
fans still want more and if a small group of you start the calls
for a Second Encore others will join in, so take the lead and
the rest will follow you!
If you are going
to a gig and want to try and arrange more support from other fans
let them know by submitting your gig to Second Encore.
The whole campaign is about you - the fan. So get involved and show
bands / artists that you will no longer settle for a third rate
encore and are making your voice heard in the hope of changing things
for the better. So spread the word to your friends and get them
involved in the campaign as the more people calling for a Second
Encore the more likely the band is to respond positively.
